| Visual file size window is gone and I can't figure out how to open it again. I only get the directory list and file type list. |

There is a so called vertical "splitter bar" between the two views which allows you to partition the available space horizontally between the two views. It seems you maximized the directory listing so the tree view isn't visible.
Move the mouse cursor to the right of the directory list and it should change to a mouse cursor showing a horizontal arrow. Now press the left mouse button and move it to the left.
