DiskInventoryX doesn't seem to like my external drive - it's actually two 500GB LaCie drives (Firewire800) that are RAID striped together to look like a single 500GB drive. When I launch DiskInventoryX it spins for a while and then the normal window shows up but the window is unresponsive and never shows anything more than a blank (white) background. Resizing it by a corner gives the error message:
incorrect calculated parent size ( sum(childs) > parent )
Any thoughts?
(Running under Tiger - tried it with both the regular released version and the Universal beta...same results) |

Do you use the drive as your Time Machine volume? Unfortunately, DIX has problems with Time Machine volumes.

Nope, haven't got Time Machine running on this box yet (still under Tiger). The only thing that I can think of that's different from other drives where it works properly is the striping/RAID setup. |

That's strange.
Would you please run Disk Utilty's repair function on that disk and have a look if that makes any difference for Disk Inventory X? |

Nope, disk repair didn't change anything. In the meantime I've added a 2nd striped RAID drive to the machine and THAT works fine. So now I'm completely baffled. It actually works fine if I pick subdirectories on the drive, just not the whole drive. The disk is pretty full - 2GB free on a 500GB drive... any chance that's got something to do with it? At any rate, since I can use it on the individual directories i need it's not a huge deal, just curious. |
